Could a Dog Replace Your Doctor?
You pay attention to these studies and some of them are just plain odd.
"Sixty Minutes" did a full segment on dogs in healthcare. Dogs with their keen sense of smell--I see some nods of recognition--dogs with their keen sense of smell were shown to be effective in detecting bladder cancer by sniffing patients' urine samples.
This is true. You give them a test tube they go nuts barking, they detect bladder cancer cells. Twenty-one years of school and now I'm in danger of losing my job to a poodle.
I think we'll actually have different breeds for different specialties. You know, if you're choking you need to see the retriever. Here Heimlich, new patient, go get 'em.
If you're anemic you need the bloodhound. Dogs in healthcare. I'm not making that up. Next we'll have sharks practicing law.
