Why Doctors Use So Many Medical Acronyms

How about the way we talk in healthcare? You like that?

When you go to the doctor, when you're in the office in the hospital, we like to use the acronyms. That's big.

We like to use those in the healthcare world. I use to work in the ER where we would talk a patient with SOB. Not what you're thinking--shortness of breath.

And AOB is alcohol on breath. So we'd get a patient--yeah we got a guy with SOB and AOB, he's also got BO, I mean PU, so, apparently it was a DUI in this BMW SUV so give some TLC and start an IV, do an EKG and MRI and call the ICU and PCP ASAP.

And turn on the NBA on NBC cuz I hear the MVP tore his ACL. I've just gotta take a TO and SUV to the ATM and get a BLT and some LMNOP and now I know my ABC's next time HMO pay me.

Right? That's how we talk.
