A Tasty Path to Lower Cholesterol
TIM: My name is Tim Bratcher and I am a commercial finance attorney. When we have a number of deals going on at one time the stress can be overwhelming.
Food went from being something that I really cared about to something totally utilitarian. Something I could just grab whenever I could wherever I could.
And the result is I've just lived the last 15 years on fast food and peanut butter.
I had been going to the doctor and my doctor had been saying your cholesterol's high, your cholesterol's high.
This one time he told me look, you're in the stroke and heart attack range you've got to bring this down.
And if I can do it through diet and exercise I want to do that.
I have to change. I'm motivated to change. I just don't really know how to be quite honest.
CAROLYN: Hi, I'm Carolyn O'Nei. I'm here to help.
Tim of course has a very high-powered job. He doesn't spend a lot of time at home. So when he comes home food preparation is not some happy la la la, open up a cookbook and see what I can dream up. It is survival.
So I kind of did a little contract agreement for Tim by Tim.
TIM "I Tim Bratcher. I understand that hamburgers and French.
CAROLYN: Let's go shopping!
Where I see excitement, adventure and opportunity he sees barriers. So that's where you have to get through that and find the entry points.
TIM: I go up and down the aisles and I see these guys in the grocery store and they're buying very discreet items. You know, they're making a meal that night. The problem is I don't know what I'm supposed to get. I don't know what I'm supposed to cook.
CAROLYN: He was ready to learn. And I think the key is to find foods somebody likes and take them from the familiar to the unfamiliar.
TIM: She showed me how to eliminate these bad things from my diet not by having to drastically change everything about what I do but just to be more conscious about making selections.
