Walking Your Dog to Better Health

We've all heard how important it is to be physically active. But you don't need an expensive gym membership or fancy exercise equipment. In fact, all it may take is a leash and a dog on the other end.

A recent study in Australia compared activity levels of people with and without dogs.

While some dog owners never took rover for a stroll, others walked their pooches every day, averaging two or three walks a week.

As a result, the dog owners were much more likely than non-owners to get recommended levels of exercise.

Experts advise that we need about 20 minutes a day, and, yes, moderate activity like walking a canine companion counts.

So when it's time to take Fido or Fifi for a walk, don't view it as a chore. See it as an opportunity to squeeze in some exercise. You'll be helping yourself and your pooch.

As the old adage goes, if your dog is fat, you're not getting enough exercise!
