Kickball: Adults Burn Calories with This Kid's Game
Who says you need a playground, a rubber ball and a bunch of grade schoolers for a game of kickball? Certainly not these New York City professionals.
They're proving that kickball isn't just for kids anymore.
"I hadn't even thought about kickball since gym class as a little kid and it's just a time to let loose after a long day at work and have a great time."
And a great work out. All the running and kicking is estimated to burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories an hour.
And playing the game can come with some mental and social benefits, too.
"it's a great stress reliever. Being an attorney can take a lot out of you mentally, emotionally, spiritually, um so this is a nice release."
The game can be found most everywhere. And for everyone.
"Kickball is divided 50-50 right down the gender line as well we have a very broad range of ages from 21 all the way up to in their '50s and '60s."
"The response we get from a kickballer playing their first season is 'oh, I haven't played this since grade school since third grade or fourth grade' and I think that's the magic of it."
But what's different from third grade is that no one has to worry about being picked last for a team.
"You kick a ball you run around the bases you throw a ball to tag them out. I'm not that good but for the most part anyone can do it."
"It's a good way to be athletic in a non-competitive environment and everyone goes out afterwards, it's a great week night activity."
And you don't have to wait for recess anymore to play.
